Wimbledon Adopts Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with video review system

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.

Video review systems will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors are granted the right to challenge certain decisions made by the official, echoing the practice already in place at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles contests.

This step arrives only a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine specific situations, including:

  • If a ball has double-bounced.
  • If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.

Importantly, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a player can ask for.

Practical Application

A recent case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Other Changes

A further change at The Championships this year will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was in or out.

In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
