The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
